Cox demos new iPad app at Cable Show

Cox first talked up the personal viewing experience (PVE) app at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, but The Cable Show marked the next-generation app’s public debut.

Netflix cuts original TV deal with DreamWorks

Though financial details were not disclosed, Netflix Inc. said the agreement includes more than 300 hours of new TV episodes in a multi-year deal.
Jinni offers multi-viewer recommendation capability

Called “Watch Together,” Jinni said the feature is part of its latest discovery engine API.
Harmonic streamer does double-duty with ad insertion

Service providers and broadcasters can use the system to insert targeted local and regional advertisements into broadcast programming delivered via MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC SD/HD transport streams.
Charter wraps up all-digital project in North Texas

Thanks to the all-digital conversion, Charter subscribers in North Texas now have access to 141 HD channels – more than double their previous HD lineup – as part of the largest HD launch in Charter's history.
Netgear sampling MoCA-to-Wi-Fi extender

Netgear’s WM2500RP extender is designed for service providers to use to boost coverage in whole-home video and data installations. The device delivers more than 400 Mbps of usable MAC (medium access control) throughput.
Suddenlink signs up Sigma Systems to provision business services

Atlantic Broadband goes exclusive with TiVo

Atlantic Broadband will begin the rollout later this year.
Foxtel debuts TV Everywhere app, OTT access

The Australian service provider is now delivering over-the-top (OTT) content, in addition to roaming access to more than 50 channels through its Foxtel Go app.

Cable Show: Gigabit DOCSIS? Yeah, we can do that

In the 3.1 demo, which included OFDM modulation and LDPC error correction, CableLabs was pushing data at a clip in excess of 6 Gbps, but in only 650 MHz, the better to show the spectral efficiency inherent in the move to OFDM.
Comcast’s Roberts unveils X2 operating system

As far as innovation goes, the X1 is so last year as Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts revealed the X2 operating system on Tuesday at the Cable Show.

Cable Show: TiVo powers up mobile app for cable operators

Atlantic Broadband, which recently signed up with TiVo, will be the first cable operator in the United States to deploy TiVo’s mobile app. When Atlantic Broadband launches its TiVo offering in the fall, it will include the TiVo mobile applications in addition to TiVo set-top boxes and DVRs.
