Al-Jazeera has long struggled to get carriage in the U.S., and the deal suffered an immediate casualty as Time Warner Cable announced it is dropping Current TV due to the deal. Current TV is carried by Comcast and DirecTV. Neither company announced plans to drop the channel.

LodgeNet, which provides Internet and on-demand movies to hotels and hospital rooms, is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will be acquired by investment firm Colony Capital. LodgeNet says it will form a strategic partnership with DirecTV.

Cablevision has added anime Funimation Channel to its subscription VOD roster. Olympusat’s channel offers anime titles from Japan that are dubbed with English. With the addition of Cablevision, Funimation Channel is now available to a total of 40 million subscribers.
Cablevision has rolled out TV Everywhere apps from Showtime and ESPN that allow its authenticated subscribers to view video content via the WatchESPN and Showtime Anytime services. Optimum TV subscribers now have live access to ESPN networks on computers, on mobile devices or on the Xbox.
Mediacom Communications has signed a multi-year affiliation agreement that gives the nation’s eighth-largest cable operator access to all of NBCUniversal's cable and broadcast content. The agreement covered the expansive rights to carry Olympic Games.

Nintendo is entering the TV realm with the launch of its Nintendo TVii, which is a free, integrated service that works on the recently launched Wii U console. TVii works by aggregating a Wii U user’s current video content provider onto a Wii U GamePad controller.
Comcast has started a phased deployment of HD digital transport adapters (HD DTAs) in subscribers’ homes ahead of ultimately having the devices across its entire footprint. HD DTAs allow customers to access HD signals without the frills of VOD, PPV, etc.
