Clear Talk purchases Verizon Wireless B-block spectrum

Clear Talk, a wireless service provider with operations in multiple states, last week signed an agreement to acquire from Verizon Wireless 10 lower 700 MHz B-block licenses covering five markets in Texas, as well as markets in Maryland, Georgia, Florida, Nevada and New Mexico.

Ericsson files patent suit against Samsung

Ericsson filed a lawsuit against Samsung for infringing its patents. The suit comes after the companies have spent nearly two years at the negotiating table in an attempt to reach an agreement on Samsung's use of Ericsson's patents, which fall under FRAND licensing terms.

Comm giants respond to Chicago broadband RFI

Chicago may end up succeeding where so many other cities have failed with its plan to build a municipal broadband network. Two dozen communications companies have responded to the city’s request for interest (RFI), including Cisco, Alcatel, AT&T, Verizon, Level 3 and Motorola Mobility.

Report: FCC to limit Dish spectrum

The FCC is saying it intends to limit the use of Dish Network's AWS-4 spectrum, according to a report published by the Wall Street Journal.  FCC officials told the paper that they are leaning towards limiting Dish's 40 MHz of AWS-4 spectrum to prevent interference with the H-block, a chunk of spectrum in which Sprint has expressed interest.

Verizon continues lower B-block sales

Verizon Wireless announced that it has agreed to sell Oklahoma-based Panhandle Telecommunications Systems licenses for spectrum in the 700 MHz B-block. The spectrum covers 12 counties in the northwest part of Texas. The sale is subject to FCC approval.

The 3GPP has approved technical specifications for 40 MHz of AWS-4 spectrum controlled by Dish Network. The 3GPP's approval will allow Dish the necessary technical blueprints needed to design and build everything from cell phone chipsets to broadband networks.
