Comcast announced that it was buying out General Electric’s 49 percent stake in NBCUniversal for $16.7 billion instead of waiting until next year’s previously scheduled date of July to take full control of NBCUniversal. Comcast earned $1.52 billion, or 56 cents per share, in the fourth quarter.
Intel said it will sell a set-top box that brings Internet-delivered movies and shows to a TV set this year. Erik Huggers, general manager of Intel Media, said the company plans to sell a box that will offer "a vastly superior experience" to today's cable boxes.

Ahead of its fourth-quarter earnings call, Netgear announced an agreement to acquire the operations of Sierra Wireless' AirCard business. The purchase price is approximately $138 million in cash. The final purchase price is subject to adjustments after closing.
Belkin, a maker of smartphone cases and computing accessories, said that it is buying the home networking business unit of Cisco, including the Linksys router brand. Privately held Belkin did not disclose the purchase price, nor did Cisco Systems. The deal is expected to close in March.

In order to better connect its Hispanic customer base with its services, Cablevision announced that it has launched a new Web portal, Optimum.net en Español. The new Web portal knits together Cablevision’s Optimum services with full Spanish-language features.
