GCI, Alaska’s largest cable operator, has inked a seven-year agreement with Disney networks, a lineup that includes ESPN and ABC Family channels. The deal, which was negotiated by the National Cable Television Cooperative, allows GCI to continue broadcasting 16 sports, news and entertainment channels into 2021 without interruption and adds products like the SEC Network and on-demand programming.
Suddenlink Communications is now offering its subscribers the WatchESPN app and access to ESPN’s web portal to view live sports coverage anytime. Former CEO Ron Frankel resigned from Synacor’s board of directors effective Aug. 25. Frankel had served on the board since 2001, which was also the same year he was named CEO. Frankel said in March that would be leaving his position as CEO, but would remain on the board and as an advisor.
