Charter Communications is offering TiVo-owned Digitalsmiths’ personalized search and recommendation platform on its mobile app that serves iOS and Android devices. Digitalsmiths has started to deploy its Seamless Discovery service to more than 5 million Charter TV and Internet customers.
Oesterling will further develop and scale Clearleap’s engineering and operational processes and systems, while assisting in managing the company’s global expansion. He will also lead recruiting efforts for technology professionals. Clearleap last November raised $20 million. The company said it plans to add 150 new employees this year.
Comcast has launched its cloud DVR and live in-home streaming service in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. The live in-home streaming part of the service was rolled out in the San Francisco area in the middle of last month with the network DVR element to follow.

Supreme Court justices debated Tuesday whether they can side with broadcasters in a copyright challenge to an Internet startup company without threatening the burgeoning world of cloud computing. Several justices expressed concern that a ruling for the broadcasters could hamper the continuing development of cloud computing, which gives users access to a vast online computer network that stores and processes information.
AT&T and the Chernin Group (which owns Crunchyroll) have formed a joint venture to “acquire, invest in and launch over-the-top (OTT) video services.” The companies are committing $500 million toward the effort.
