TV, movie features on Wii U delayed

Some of the entertainment features on Nintendo's new Wii U won't be available when the game machine goes on sale. Nintendo didn't give a reason for the delay. The company said it wanted the service "to be the best possible experience for all consumers."

Telefonica standardizes on Mediaroom IPTV

Telefonica Digital is rolling out IP video services based on Microsoft’s Mediaroom across an unspecified number of countries included in its vast international reach. The global operator has already begun deploying the technology in three countries – Brazil, Chile and Spain.

Virgin Media app enables TV anywhere

Virgin Media is expanding its TiVo service with a mobile app that provides cloud-based access to live programming outside the home. The app works with Apple iOS-based mobile devices. The app will also enable Virgin Media subscribers to remotely manage their TVs.

This Technology scores $7.5M in financing

Advanced advertising vendor This Technology has wrapped up $7.5 million in equity financing and announced it counts Comcast, NBCUniversal, Verizon and ABC among its customers. The financing was led by General Catalyst Partners, and This Technology now has Neil Sequeria on its board of directors.

BendBroadband broadens TV Everywhere lineup

BendBroadband has added channels to its TV Everywhere service, including Hallmark Channel, Fox News, Fox Business Channel, ESPN3 and Pac-12 Networks. BendBroadband outsources to Synacor to provide its white-label TV Everywhere services.

UTStarcom buys big chunk of aioTV

UTStarcom Holdings said it has acquired a significant minority stake in aioTV. With its purchase of 44 percent of aioTV’s stock, UTStarcom becomes the smaller company’s largest investor. AioTV specializes in cloud-based video aggregation and distribution.

RCN turns up the volume on interactive music video channel

Cable over-builder RCN is now offering a new interactive music video network that allows viewers to interact with the content online and through their mobile devices. RCN is offering Music Choice’s SWRV linear channel to subscribers across all of its markets.

Suddenlink reports robust Q3, plans to add TiVo Mini next year

Bucking the trend of cable operators losing basic video subscribers, Suddenlink Communications actually added a total of 200 in the third quarter en route to chalking up some solid financial results. Suddenlink reported third-quarter revenues of $511.9 million.

SeaChange wins two more multi-screen customers

SeaChange racked up two more customers for its Adrenalin multi-screen video software, neither of which were identified beyond describing them as one North American and one Latin American service provider. One of the two also selected SeaChange’s Nitro multi-screen user experience software.

Cablevision secures roaming rights to NBCU content

Shaw to add more Wi-Fi hotspots in Winnipeg

Shaw Communications has signed an agreement with the city of Winnipeg to offer its Wi-Fi service in more locations across the city, including libraries, arenas, recreation facilities and community centers. The Wi-Fi hotspots can be accessed by Shaw subscribers.
