Broadcom announces quad-combo chip

The company introduced two new Near Field Communication solutions that will integrate certified NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and FM onto a single chip. Broadcom also announced a single card solution combining its 5G Wi-Fi combo chip with its standalone NFC.

SeaChange names GM of platform unit

The company announced that it has hired George Kajos as the new general manager for its platform business unit. In his new job, Kajos heads the product development organization that includes SeaChange's Adrenalin video platform and Nitro subscriber offering.

Time Warner Cable updates app to include VOD

With the update, Time Warner Cable is now serving up 4,000 VOD titles on iPad, iPhone and iPad touch devices to subscribers. The movies and shows come in both SD and HD formats from 91 providers. Users have access to the VOD programming associated with their subscription packages. Other cable operators, such as Cablevision, also offer subscribers access to their VOD libraries across multiple screens.

Cablevision enables select Android devices on Optimum App

Cablevision has enabled its Optimum App for select Android devices to stream live and on-demand programming, as well as remote DVR programming capabilities, to its customers. The free app currently works with some Android devices from Motorola and Samsung.

Xfinity app adds downloadable viewing

Comcast soft-launched the latest version of its Xfinity TV Player app to include downloads from Starz, Encore and MoviePlex on devices running either Apple's iOS or Google's Android operating systems. Authenticated subscribers can view shows and movies anywhere and offline.
