Mediacom nails down content rights

Cisco still top dog in STB marketplace

For the second straight quarter, Cisco edged out Motorola as the top cable set-top box market share leader. Infonetics Research said in a recent report that worldwide set-top box revenue was essentially flat in the third quarter of this year, totaling $3.7 billion.

Cablevision bows ESPN, Showtime multi-screen apps

Cablevision has rolled out TV Everywhere apps from Showtime and ESPN that allow its authenticated subscribers to view video content via the WatchESPN and Showtime Anytime services. Optimum TV subscribers now have live access to ESPN networks on computers, on mobile devices or on the Xbox.

Mediacom signs distribution deal with NBCUniversal

Mediacom Communications has signed a multi-year affiliation agreement that gives the nation’s eighth-largest cable operator access to all of NBCUniversal's cable and broadcast content. The agreement covered the expansive rights to carry Olympic Games.

AT&T adds more Starz to TV Everywhere menu

AT&T has beefed up its TV Everywhere roster with the addition of  Starz Play, Encore Play and MoviePlex Play from Starz Entertainment. AT&T subscribers that are signed up for the Starz Encore and MoviePlex premium channels can now view the content on iOS devices through their Wi-Fi and broadband connections.

Avail-TVN launches white-label SVOD

Avail-TVN’s ViewNow, which is being used by Verizon FiOS for Redbox Instant, is now available to other service providers that want to offer a branded subscription VOD service of their own. Using ViewNow, service providers will be able to offer titles from Avail-TVN’s library.

Comcast app to let viewers store, replay movies

Comcast says its tablet and phone app now lets subscribers download and store movies and TV shows from some channels for offline viewing. Cable companies have rushed out applications that let viewers stream TV content, but this is the first one that allows offline viewing.

Disney strikes long-term carriage deal with Cox

The Walt Disney Co. began the year with a long-term carriage deal with Comcast, and it’s ending it with a similar agreement with Cox Communications. Cox is now able to carry Disney programming across televisions, computers, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles and Internet-enabled televisions.

Verizon expands NFL coverage to Web portals

Verizon has extended the reach of its NFL coverage with the addition of “Watch NFL Network” to its FiOS TV Online Web portal. “Watch NFL Network” provides FiOS TV customers with live streaming access to NFL Network and RedZone programming.

Broadcom announces quad-combo chip

SeaChange names GM of platform unit

The company announced that it has hired George Kajos as the new general manager for its platform business unit. In his new job, Kajos heads the product development organization that includes SeaChange's Adrenalin video platform and Nitro subscriber offering.
