Comcast will add Paramount Pictures’ library of films into its online digital store this month. The Paramount library is the latest addition to Comcast’s Xfinity On Demand electronic video store, which made its debut in November of last year.
CTAM is out of the starting blocks with a new consumer-facing TV Everywhere initiative that was designed to show consumers how easy it is to access and view multi-screen video content. The campaign, which is called “You could be watching TV,” was designed to expound on the benefits of TV Everywhere services, including live and on demand, and in or out of a home.
CBS Corp. and TV provider Dish Network Corp. have reached an agreement that ends a contract dispute that led to a short programming blackout in local markets around the country, the companies announced Saturday.CBS had blocked Dish from carrying the local channels of CBS-owned TV stations for about 12 hours starting around 7 p.m. Eastern time Friday.
DirecTV became the first MVPD to announce plans to offer 4K content on demand, sometime in 2015. The satellite broadcaster will be using Elemental Server, a file-based transcoding solution, to prepare Ultra HD content for delivery. Elemental tweaked its HEVC algorithms so DirecTV didn't have to take a hit on bandwidth usage.

When it comes to streaming media players, Roku still reigns supreme followed by Google’s Chromecast, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV. According to a report by Parks Associates, Roku was the leading brand with 29 percent of sales in the United States while Chromecast took over second place from Apple TV with a market share of 20 percent compared to Apple’s 17 percent.

Kabillion, a VOD network that features content for kids, recently reached a carriage agreement with Cablevision. With the Cablevision deal, Kabillion is now available to more than 50 million homes across the United States. Liberty Global, the largest international cable operator, has tapped into real-time data processing and quality of experience reporting for its Horizon Go app via a deal with Conviva. Liberty Global currently has Horizon Go launched in seven European countries with more to come, according to Conviva.

Cablevision has spiced up its Spanish-language TV package with the addition of 12 new networks, which brought its total number of channels in its Optimum en Español tier to 55. Cablevision said the new channels were added to the lineup at no additional cost to subscribers of Optimum en Español.
Online streaming service Aereo says that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, saying an unfavorable ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court was too difficult to overcome. In June, the Supreme Court ruled that Aereo operates like a cable TV company. As a result, the court said the service violates copyright law unless Aereo pays broadcasters licensing fees for offering TV station programs to customers' devices.

Chip-making giant Intel Corp. is still struggling to catch up in mobile computing but says its personal computer business is performing better than expected and its return to revenue growth this year will continue into 2015. Intel's business has suffered as consumers have increasingly turned to smartphones and tablets that mostly use lower-power chips made by other companies.
Over-the-top pay-TV revenues will increase from $6 billion this year to more than $10 billion by 2018. Overall, the global pay-TV market totaled $117 billion in the first half of this year, which was an increase of 4 percent from the first half of last year, according to a report by Infonetics Research.

Amazon announced that its Fire TV Stick has started shipping today, and said that the stick was its fastest selling Amazon device ever. But it looks as though you’ll have to wait until after the holidays to get your hands on one. Last month Amazon announced it was taking on Chromecast and Roku, among others, with its Fire TV Stick, which provides instant access to movies, TV shows, music, photos, apps, and games.
Netflix says it plans to expand into Australia and New Zealand in March. The online movie and television provider said Tuesday that details on pricing will be available later. In the most recent quarter, subscriber growth fell short of company forecasts because of a price increase in the U.S., and Netflix is dealing with tougher competition from Amazon and Hulu.
Atlantic Broadband has launched an online portal that gives customers direct access to content on any personal computer. Atlantic Broadband customers can log in with their user names and passwords, anywhere in the U.S. where they have an Internet connection.
