WaveDivision Holdings, the parent company of Wave Broadband, announced this morning that it had bought fiber optics provider Capacity Provisioning Incorporated (CPI) for an undisclosed sum. The Justice Department says its top antitrust official, Bill Baer, is recusing himself from the department's review of Comcast's $45 billion purchase of Time Warner Cable Inc. Spokeswoman Gina Talamona says that Baer, an assistant attorney general, was not heading the review due to some work he did while in private practice.
Cable One has launched an on-site Wi-Fi service for small businesses in its footprint. The Wi-Fi service cost an additional $9.95 a month for small businesses that are subscribers to Cable One’s data service. On the gear side, Cable One is using SMC Networks to provision the service.

Time Warner Cable Business Class is now offering healthcare facilities an HD video service that mimics the in-home viewing experience for patients. The service, which is called “HD Video for Healthcare,” provides HD video, free VOD programming, an interactive program guide and the ability to pause live TV to hospitals, doctor’s offices, long-term care facilities and other medical facilities.
The reported price is $320 million. Where many ad insertion systems tend to focus on the delivery of ads that are appropriate for subscribers, Freewheel gives MVPDs like Comcast the ability to control who can sell ads into their content. Freewheel has associated tools for managing the financial aspects of the ad streaming business.
