The MSOs latest speed increase applies to all California customers except those in Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Isleton, Lodi and Rio Vista. The other markets where Comcast accelerated Xfinity speeds are Olathe, KS, Independence, MO, and Houston, TX.

Comcast has signed a new contract with CSG International that provides the cable operator with CSG’s residential billing services through June 30, 2019. Cable industry pioneer Steve Simmons was elected to Cablevision’s board of directors effective immediately. Simmons joined the board as an independent director and his election increased Cablevision’s board to 18 members. Shares of Windstream jumped Tuesday after the broadband and communications company said it will move some of its assets into a real estate investment trust, reducing its debts. The Little Rock, Arkansas, company said it hopes to complete a tax-free spinoff of the REIT during the first quarter of 2015. The plan is subject to regulatory approval but Windstream said it has received some guidance from the IRS about the move.

Wyoming-based Sweetwater Cable TV has signed a multi-year agreement to use GLDS’ (Great Lakes Data Systems’) solutions to support its triple play services. Great Lakes Data Systems’ WinCable is a billing and service-provisioning platform that’s used by small to medium-sized broadband service providers. It offers tools to manage FTTH, digital video, VoIP, high-speed Internet and other services.
