Liberty Global wraps up OneLink acquisition

Liberty Global announced that it had completed its deal to buy Puerto Rican cable operator OneLink Communications. The $585-million-dollar deal was first announced in June. It's a somewhat convoluted financial arrangement.

Bright House boots up cross-promotions with Verizon Wireless in Orlando

Bright House Networks is on the board with Verizon Wireless now that the two companies have started their joint marketing efforts in Orlando. Bright House is the last MSO to start cross-promoting its triple-play services with Verizon Wireless’ smartphones and tablets.

Suddenlink reports robust Q3, plans to add TiVo Mini next year

Bucking the trend of cable operators losing basic video subscribers, Suddenlink Communications actually added a total of 200 in the third quarter en route to chalking up some solid financial results. Suddenlink reported third-quarter revenues of $511.9 million.

Verizon accelerates LTE build

Verizon Communications CFO Fran Shammo told analysts that the company is accelerating the deployment of its LTE network, which already has a wide lead over AT&T’s LTE coverage. Verizon Wireless now plans to complete its LTE rollout by the middle of next year.

AT&T changes policy, will allow FaceTime over cellular

AT&T will allow any customer with an LTE-capable iOS device on a tiered or shared data plan to use Apple's FaceTime video conferencing app over a cellular connection. AT&T had previously said it would only allow users who switched to the company's new shared data plans to access the app.

Judge rejects injunction against Dish DVR

A California judge has rejected a request for a preliminary injunction against Dish Network's ad-skipping digital video recorder in a dispute that has pit broadcasters against a main distributor of their programming. The ruling was not released publically.

SeaChange wins two more multi-screen customers

The triple-play bundle starts at $89.99 a month and lasts for one year.

AT&T sets $14B broadband expansion

Many homes in AT&T's local phone service areas will see the company becoming more competitive with cable for broadband service under a new $14 billion, three-year investment plan the company revealed. But in more outlying areas, the company will start shifting customers from regular phone lines to wireless service.

Frontier Communications' Q3 profit up threefold

The company, which offers broadband, digital phone, video and other services, said that net income rose to $67 million, or 7 cents per share, for the three months ended Sept. 30. That compares with net income of $20.4 million, or 2 cents per share, in the same period last year.

Charter’s new strategy shows signs of paying off in Q3

Charter Communications reported third-quarter revenue of $1.88 billion, slightly up from revenue in its Q3 a year ago, and a loss of $87 million, compared with $85 million a year ago. Residential video customers decreased by 73,000 in the third quarter.

Cablevision’s Q3 overwhelmed by expenses

Cablevision reported a third-quarter loss of $3.8 million on slightly higher revenue, compared with the similar period a year ago. Third-quarter net revenue grew 1.2 percent to $1.685 billion. The loss was attributed to higher expenses associated with restructuring and compensation, as well as larger expenditures on paying down debt.

DirecTV misses Street’s Q3 expectations

DirecTV missed Wall Street's earnings estimates for the third quarter, which included a 10-day blackout of Viacom channels like Nickelodeon and Comedy Central. DirecTV said that it earned $565 million, or 90 cents per share, for the July-to-September period.

Comcast moves Lopez to head Oregon operations

Comcast has named Rodrigo Lopez as regional vice president for Oregon and southwest Washington State. The position opened when Comcast offered Lopez’s predecessor, Hank Fore, a similar position running the company’s California operations.
