Time Warner tests Gotuit's 'slice and dice' VOD tech
Jeff Baumgartner
CedMagazine.com - March 08, 2004

Time Warner Cable of Maine has agreed to test indexing software from Gotuit Media Corp. that is designed to slice and dice video-on-demand content into easily navigable segments.

Time Warner Cable of Maine uses servers and VOD software from SeaChange International. It marks the first announced cable trial for Gotuit.

The pilot effort will feature Gotuit-powered VOD content from Scripps Networks, which offers on-demand titles from networks such as Home & Garden Television, Food Network, DIY and Fine Living.

Gotuit's technology uses metadata to index recorded content. By way of example, a Gotuit-enabled baseball game could be indexed by the inning. A different example would be where the software could let users see only pass plays from a football game that gained more than 15 yards.

"Allowing subscribers the ability to navigate our content and view precisely those segments of the program that they are most interested in introduced the next evolution of TV viewing behavior, which is a natural fit for our viewers," said Channing Dawson, senior vice president of emerging media for Scripps Networks.

A Gotuit spokeswoman said the company has trials and content agreements with other yet-to-be named MSOs and programmers.
