Sparkplug Inc., a provider of business broadband services, has expanded its service area in the Phoenix market with its recent acquisition of Renaissance Networking Inc. (RNi).

With the acquisition of Tempe, Ariz.-based RNi, a provider of wireless business broadband services, Sparkplug adds business customers and network points of presence in more than 250 buildings in Phoenix.

The company said it has also received formal approval from the FCC to transfer the ownership of CNG Communications, which holds more than 180 FCC common carrier license paths in the 6, 11 and 18 GHz frequency bands.

The terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed.

Sparkplug formed last year with the merger of three companies: Sparkplug in Chicago; Prairie iNet in Des Moines, Iowa; and Telespectra in Phoenix.

The company offers symmetrical bandwidth—customers can scale from 2 Mbps to 1 Gbps in a fraction of the time it would take to provision the bandwidth from a traditional wired provider, the company said.
