Envivio introduced a new multi-screen application server designed to enable operators to further personalize the user experience based on individual viewer requests.
The Envivio Halo Experience Server facilitates time-shifted TV and network DVR, targeted advertisement insertion, social and personalized TV.
Operators deploying Halo Experience will be able to let viewers to pause and rewind live streams, record programs and watch them on any other device, or receive personalized ads based on their profile.
New user capabilities will be possible with Halo Experience, such as instantaneous video clip recording and sharing with friends, or even allowing users to create their own TV channels a la carte.
Envivio said that the server can be installed with minimal changes in installed multi-screen infrastructure. The company said no multi-platform or specific client development is required, no change is needed in the CDN, and content switching using Halo Experience is seamless.
The system relies on the native caching capabilities of the CDN to create new services; its software is compatible with both on-net and off-net services.
"The majority of service providers have deployed a multi-screen service and now are looking to monetize those services and enhance the user experience," said Julien Signes, Envivio's president and CEO.
Halo Experience will offer audience measurement capabilities to better track connected user viewing patterns, and will support the full range of streaming formats, including Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), Microsoft Smooth Streaming, Adobe HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS) and MPEG-DASH. Envivio will offer APIs for integration with third-party application servers and ad decision systems as well as interfaces for selected middleware.
