Virgin Media’s TV Anywhere gets a boost from Concurrent

Virgin Media has picked Concurrent to help it send more video to IP-connected devices through its Virgin TV Anywhere service.

Virgin Media is using Concurrent’s MediaHawk content delivery network (CDN) platform to support its TV Everywhere service on computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones. With MediaHawk, Virgin Media is able to provision its own content delivery architecture on a common platform across the various devices. MediaHawk supports a variety of video applications, including linear broadcast, video on-demand, time-shifted TV and network DVR.

With its embedded eFactor content workflow features, MediaHawk can reduce operational costs by adapting source content on the fly to satisfy the requirements of each target device.

Other Concurrent customers in Europe include Kabel Deutschland in Germany, ZON Multimedia in Portugal, Telefonica in Spain, and Vectra in Poland.

Earlier this year, Liberty Global announced it has struck an agreement to purchase Virgin Media in a cash and stock deal valued at $23.3 billion.
