Thomson enhances ViBE VS7000 multi-screen platform
Thomson Video Networks' ViBE VS7000 multi-screen video platform has been enhanced with new features that increase its versatility and power for both live and file-based IP video. In addition to its support for existing streaming formats from Apple and Microsoft, the ViBE VS7000 now offers support for the MPEG-DASH format.
The ViBE VS7000's value for live IPTV and Web TV/OTT applications is also extended by its new capacity for ingest and other file-based workflows. Allowing live and file applications to run concurrently on a single system, the ViBE VS7000 provides operational convenience through a common graphical interface.
The ViBE VS7000 video system integrates with external platforms through a built-in SOAP/Web services interface. Its built-in video operating system provides native load balancing and redundancy/fail-over.
"With this new version, the ViBE VS7000 takes another leap forward as a highly versatile platform for multi-format applications by letting users deliver TV channels using the latest WebTV standard – MPEG-DASH," said Hervé Congard, COO at Thomson Video Networks. "The capacity for simultaneous live and file-based applications, combined with the overall platform performance improvements, further reduces operator costs.”
The ViBE VS7000 is highly scalable in terms of input channels and output profiles. It handles multiple output formats per channel, with video resolution up to 1920 x 1080 in progressive and interlaced modes.
New and advanced video preprocessing optimizes the resizing and de-interlacing processes for better picture quality at lower bit rates and complements the already comprehensive feature set of the solution.
SeaChange upgrades Nucleus soft box gateway
SeaChange demonstrated the latest innovations of its Nucleus soft box gateway at the CableLabs Summer Conference 2012.
SeaChange’s Nucleus soft box is a software solution that supports the new RDK (Reference Development Kit) software environment and vendor ecosystem, and it enables cable operators’ transition from QAM to IP video so they can offer consumers multi-screen media sharing, whole-home DVR, access to online apps and OTT content, smartphone and tablet apps that act as the TV remote control, etc.
With the SeaChange Nitro User Interface software and its open, standards-based approach integrated in, the Nucleus soft box solution blends the cable set-top with Internet standards such as DLNA and HTML5.
Volicon adds loudness monitoring, logging to Observer Scout
Volicon’s loudness monitoring and logging solution is now available on its Observer Scout platform. This solution is targeted at broadcasters and networks, as well as cable, satellite and IPTV operators, wishing to comply with broadcast loudness legislation.
Unlike traditional standalone meters, Observer Scout offers 24/7 continuous monitoring of all channels to ensure loudness measurements are captured and made available on-demand and after the fact – which is useful for troubleshooting and fault isolation of specific complaints.
"By adding the necessary interfaces and a loudness monitoring and logging module into the affordable Observer Scout platform, Volicon has brought to the market the ultimate in loudness monitoring, compliance and troubleshooting, all for the price of a standalone loudness meter – but with a whole lot more functionality," said Gary Learner, chief technical officer at Volicon.
The Volicon Observer Scout with loudness monitoring is a powerful solution that enables compliance with BS-1770-2, EBU R128 and ATSC A/85 recommended practices. With Observer Scout, operators now have a loudness management tool that offers frame-accurate loudness measurements, historical LAN/WAN accessible A/V record, exportable burned in A/V compliance affidavit, as well as alarming, graphing and selectable gating.
