Harmonic upgrades contribution system
Harmonic has upgraded its ProView video processor with 4:2:2 decoding capabilities, enabling content and service providers to deliver the professional video quality required for contribution applications.
Harmonic’s ProView 7100 integrated receiver-decoder (IRD), transcoder and stream processor can support 4:2:2 compressed video streams in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC 8/10-bit formats, the company said.
By integrating 4:2:2 decoding for DVB-S/S2, IP and DVB-ASI input interfaces into the ProView 7100, Harmonic said it allows content providers to cost-effectively decode SD and HD content presented as either MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC compressed streams with improved picture fidelity.
"Video content goes through multiple compression stages before being distributed to viewers, making it essential to preserve high video quality within the contribution stages of a broadcast workflow," said Krish Padmanabhan, senior vice president of video products at Harmonic. "Using Harmonic's ProView 7100 4:2:2 decoder with 10-bit precision for MPEG-4 AVC transport streams, service providers maintain the color fidelity of video content when performing subsequent post-production processes such as chroma keying."
