Pace, TiVo partner on multi-tuner video gateway
Pace and TiVo have collaborated on a six-tuner, hybrid QAM/IP video gateway, which is known as the XGI, that also features TiVo’s user interface.
The XG1 gateway is currently launching and trialing with major U.S. cable operators and will be available in Latin America and Canada later this year.
The six QAM tuners on the XG1 enable six simultaneous HD recordings that can support an entire home’s DVR activity. When the XG1 is paired with client set-top boxes, each client will have access to the DVR and video service capabilities of the XG1. In addition to the six tuners, the video gateway features a 500 GB removable hard drive and an integrated DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem.
The XG1 can run various high-definition, graphically rich user interfaces, including Rovi’s TotalGuide, TiVo’s advanced TV solutions and others.
“The XG1 provides a hardware platform to support and completely transform the way that our service provider partners deliver their entertainment offering,” said Alan Gee, senior architect at Pace Americas. “The XG1 is designed to be software-agnostic and work with the operator’s chosen user interface.”
TiVo counts Charter Communications, Suddenlink Communications and RCN among its North American cable operator customers and Virgin Media over in the United Kingdom.
