Imagine's Ice Video PlatformImagine Communications has reengineered its ICE video platform so that it can simultaneously process HD and SD IPTV streams; options include adaptive bit rate (ABR) streaming.

The upgrade makes the ICE system suitable for IPTV, a bit of a repositioning for the company. And, of course, the new combination of capabilities makes ICE suitable for multi-screen delivery, as well.

Imagine said the ICE system is now ideal for IPTV service providers that need to deploy more channels with higher picture quality and then rapidly and seamlessly add support for multiple device types, such as the new iPad and other new mobile platforms with 1080p support.

By integrating audio and video transcoding in the same platform as PIP (picture-in-picture) creation, multi-screen transcoding and multi-format media streaming, the ICE video platform provides an all-in-one solution for quality, scalability and reliability, the company said.

The system, which is built around the company’s homegrown ICE-Q Advanced Video Compression, is capable of full decode/encode with metadata pull-through on all channels. Imagine explained that that enables optimized scene-change detection, while making full utilization of original encode parameters.

Also introduced are granular PID-level redundancy mechanisms, enabling new levels of service protection, both upstream and downstream, from the ICE video platform transcoder, the company said.

The ICE system is available either in a 1RU package or as an NEBS-compliant blade system.
