MULTI-SCREEN - Harmonic launches ProMedia software solutions
Harmonic has introduced the ProMedia family of software solutions that optimize live and file-based multiscreen video production and processing for content and service providers, and the family will be on display at IBC.
The solutions perform a range of functions, including transcoding, packaging and origination, to enable highquality video creation and the delivery of live streaming, live-to-VOD and VOD services to TVs, PCs, tablets, smartphones and other IP-connected devices.
The software products can be deployed individually or as an end-to-end video processing solution. The ProMedia family is also integrated with digital rights management systems, asset management systems and content distribution networks, in addition to other Harmonic products, including encoders, receivers, playout servers and storage.
The ProMedia family leverages Harmonic’s H.264 video codec experience, which is based on the same intellectual property behind Harmonic's Electra encoders.
The ProMedia family includes four software products: ProMedia Live, a real-time video processing and transcoding system; ProMedia Carbon (formerly Carbon Coder), a file-based transcoder powered by Rhozet technology; ProMedia Package, a carrier-grade adaptive streaming preparation system; and ProMedia Origin, an HTTP and RTMP streaming video server.
Irdeto expands ActiveCloak for Media offering
With consumer demand for content anytime, anywhere rising sharply and the TV Everywhere movement continuing to gain steam, Irdeto is broadening its ActiveCloak for Media offering by adding support for Android and HTTP Live Streaming (HLS).
This is in addition to existing customer deployments on Apple iOS, PC, Mac, and embedded set-top box and connected TV platforms, as well as Irdeto’s existing support of Microsoft IIS Smooth Streaming.
“Consumers choose Android because it’s easy to use, lower cost and compatible with Google applications; but as Android becomes more popular and pervasive, so too do the risks of piracy,” said Martin Sendyk, senior vice president of product at Irdeto. “Our new Android and HLS capabilities help CE manufacturers and operators ensure high-value content is protected on any platform.”
The platform-agnostic ActiveCloak for Media solution – launched in February – protects high-value content delivered over the top or through the home network, helping content owners, operators and CE manufacturers protect and monetize digital entertainment assets across a range of consumer devices.
The expanded offering comes on the heels of the company’s acquisition of Rovi’s BD+ technology, which was designed to further deepen the ActiveCloak offering and protect high-value Blu-ray movie titles from the threat of digital piracy.
ViewCast doubles streaming media processing power
ViewCast has announced the availability of the Niagara 7550. The newest release in the Niagara 7500 series, the Niagara 7550 takes advantage of the latest multi-core processing technology, expanding its adaptive streaming capabilities and making it a feature-rich streaming appliance for the Web-based delivery of HD video.
The Niagara 7550 enables users to simultaneously leverage multiple adaptive streaming formats, including Apple HTTP adaptive streaming for iPads and iPhones and Adobe Flash dynamic streaming.
The Niagara 7550 includes the ViewCast SimulStream technology, which enables a single video source to generate several video streams at once, with each stream configured differently for laptops, cell phones or mobile devices. And it allows simultaneous streaming in many popular formats.
