Zanaware automatically senses new headend gear

Zanaware Technologies has upgraded its Channel Lineup Pro and Auto Backr Pro to automatically detect and record any new devices in a headend, simplifying the management of headend facilities. Using standard networking protocols, the products regularly poll each headend device to automatically identify and record any network or configuration changes.

Harmonic streamer does double-duty with ad insertion

Harmonic said its real-time stream processor, The ProStream 9100, now has the ability to perform linear ad splicing. Service providers and broadcasters can use the system to insert targeted local and regional advertisements into broadcast programming delivered via MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC SD/HD transport streams.

The company's Origin Selector option for its Distributed Video Delivery Network (D-VDN) Solution provides scalable load balancing and redundancy across multiple video origin servers, located in either the service provider’s own headend or in an external content provider’s network. The Origin Selector option in the Edgeware D-VDN Solution enables intelligent distribution of content collection requests over multiple origin servers, obviating the need for load balancers.

Rovi releases SDK for adding HEVC codecs

The SDK includes the company’s patent-pending Smart Adaptive Bitrate Encoding Technology (SABET), which enables the generation of as many as ten simultaneous output streams from a single source, reducing CPU cycles by utilizing common encoding processes across all levels, Rovi explained. This facility should help lower the costs and reduce the time required for the mass transcoding of large video content libraries to HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding).

Concurrent has developed a video archiving system that matches the popularity of any given video asset to the most cost-efficient storage option available as that asset waxes and wanes in popularity. The company said an unidentified major customer is testing the product, a software element of Concurrent’s MediaHawk video processing platform.

Actiontec Electronics said it will be the lead developer of a new line of products incorporating Intel wireless WiDi designed to link laptops to TVs. WiDi is already built into Intel’s current Core processors, and the company said it has integrated the technology in its forthcoming fourth-generation Core processors as well.

Lantiq chipset enables DSL vectoring

The company said that gateway designs based on the new chipset, the Xway VRX300, can reach data rates of 200 Mbps (two pair bonded) and up to 150 Mbps (vectoring) while supporting an array of home networking features, including integrated Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi), Gigabit Ethernet and VoIP.

Averna hooks up with Pace on DOCSIS certification

Montreal-based Averna has forged a design-validation partnership with Pace that it said would accelerate customer premise equipment certification (CPE) for cable operators. Using Averna’s DOCSIS Channel Emulator (DCE), the two companies will help service providers gain SCTE-40 certification on various CPE equipment for the cable and broadband industry.

Harmonic has created transcoding presets for its ProMedia Carbon transcoder specifically for preparing to deliver video to Netflix. The presets are designed to enable to speed the process of programmers using ProMedia Carbon to transform video and audio content into media formats optimized for Netflix.
