Motorola intros denser optical terminal
Motorola Mobility has introduced a new terminal for its optical LAN systems aimed at business customers. The WT24004 workgroup terminal is designed for areas within any facility where there is a high concentration of end users of IP services, such as VoIP located alongside other IP-based systems such as wireless access points, security badge readers and security cameras.
The WT24004 provides up to 16 Gigabit Ethernet ports and is designed to support a full range of advanced data, IP voice and IP video services over a converged fiber-based LAN. Previous terminals typically had four ports.
The new terminal also supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), which is increasingly more important as many IP-enabled devices, such as wireless access points, are deployed in areas where local power is not readily available.
SAIC is both a reseller of Motorola’s POL products and a customer. Shaun Harker, business development manager for the passive optical LAN product team at SAIC, said, “While the majority of our customers require four-port workgroup terminals directly at the desktop, the WT24004 serves as an ideal fit for those higher-density requirements in labs, conference areas and wherever above-ceiling devices need to be accommodated in larger numbers.”
Separately, Motorola Mobility said that Bouygues Telecom in France is using its Medios Merchandiser to enhance its IPTV service.
