RF4CE - GreenPeak Intros GP570 Chip for RF4CE
GreenPeak Technologies has launched its new GP570 chip, a highly integrated single SoC solution that will allow the development of lowcost, motion-enabled remote controls.
The GP570 is GreenPeak’s single-chip RF4CE remote control SoC solution with integrated support for motion sense algorithms, which is based on combined accelerometer and gyroscope input for advanced gesture recognition and smooth and accurate movement control.
GreenPeak offers the GP570 with reference designs that allow for integration with minimal effort and a short time to market. The GP570 is part of the GreenPeak remote control RF4CE product line.
Cees Links, founder and CEO of GreenPeak Technologies, said: “Motion-enabled remote controls fit perfectly with the next-generation television content and services. ... Motion control will transform zapping into a fun, smooth and intuitive pointing experience.”
“Next-generation remote controls will help MSOs and cable providers excite existing subscribers and attract new ones,” says Rob Enderle, principle analyst with Enderle Group. “Adding motion sensing to RF4CE remote control features, like interactivity, whole-house coverage and outstanding battery life, will help bring the cable industry into the age defined by products like the Xbox Kinect and Wii.”
At CES, GreenPeak announced that Comcast selected its controller chips, in conjunction with ZigBee RF4CE technology, for use in remote controls for its Xfinity TV service. The two are also in the process of standardizing an MSO profile protocol optimized for service operators’ needs that will be open for all operators and CE companies to adopt.
Dialogic Debuts PowerMedia XMS for Conferencing
Dialogic recently released a software-based media server for mobile, broadband and cloud environments.
The Dialogic PowerMedia Extended Media Server (XMS) enables service providers to deliver standards-based video conferencing features to create new – and enhance existing – audio and Web conferencing services. The server runs on a range of physical and virtual computing platforms and scales to meet variable demand for conferencing and other value-added services.
Software media processing can reduce deployment and operational costs, giving service providers an opportunity to add IP-based value-added services such as conferencing, the company said. Standard SIP call and media control protocols can simplify the adoption and integration of PowerMedia XMS into a range of next-gen networks, including networks with IMS architecture.
According to Richard Thurston, lead analyst at Ovum Research: “The global audio and Web conferencing market is poised to grow to $8.2 billion in 2015 from $6.2 billion in 2010, driven by Web conferencing on a global scale and audio conferencing in emerging markets. It is a competitive market that demands efficient infrastructure and flexibility in pricing and deployment models. End users are also seeking greater interaction and collaboration through their conferences, with an emphasis on video in one-to-few, one-to-many and fewto-few Web conferences.”
Adtran Touts OLTs
Adtran has added the Total Access 1600 series to its FTTH portfolio. It’s a family of 1RU form factor optical line terminals (OLTs) supporting either GPON or Ethernet FTTH (Active Ethernet).
These OLTs provide a compact addition to Adtran’s FTTH product line, offering a solution for deployments with lower subscriber densities where lower port counts are required. They occupy less space, and they offer 40-Gbps-per-system network uplink capability, Ethernet ring support, multi-system link aggregation and stacking options.
The Total Access 1600 family enables deployments to fit any network need by providing multiple costoptimized, access-side interface options: four-, eightand 16-port GPON and 48-port Gigabit Ethernet. Full backward compatibility with the entire Total Access line of optical network terminals (ONTs) ensures a smooth transition for service providers interested in expanding FTTH service coverage further into their existing network or incrementally offering the service into new areas.
