ALL-IN-ONE 10G TESTER - Anritsu Measures Multiple Rates

Anritsu Co. has created what it says is the industry’s first single-instrument test solution capable of measuring multiple rates – including SDH/SONET, OTN, PDH/DSn and 10GbE – as well as simultaneously testing multiple channels across the full 10G band.

The MP1590B, when configured with the MU150110A multi-rate/multichannel unit, can perform tests that previously required multiple instruments, thereby lowering the cost of test and making development and manufacture of 10G devices, modules and equipment used in next-generation networks more efficient, according to the company.

For SONET/SDH equipment, the MP1590B can simultaneously measure all higher order and lower order channels of VT1.5/VC11. Error/alarm, BER, Automatic Protection Switching (APS) and delay time measurements can be done for the 5,376 channels simultaneously. For DSn or PDH equipment, the analyzer can perform function tests using multiplexer/demultiplexer measurement, error insertion or alarm addition.

The MP1590B is equipped with Poisson error insertion and variable optical output power functions, so it can efficiently evaluate devices, modules and equipment designed for OTN applications. For 10GE applications, the MP1590B provides PCS measurement and link fault signaling measurements.

Additionally, a built-in 10G optical interface (XFP) eliminates the need for dedicated optical interfaces when measuring 10G performances, thereby lowering set-up costs by 15 percent compared with conventional 10G test configurations.

The MU150110A is one in a series of plug-in modules for the MP1590B. Anritsu has designed the MP1590B family to perform a wide range of measurements covering the physical and application layers used in NGNs. The Network Performance Tester can perform simultaneous applications – such as SDH/SONET, OTN, EoS, jitter and Ethernet measurement – using combinations of plug-in units.

Infineon Rides the Xway Wave 

Infineon Technologies has introduced a new family of single-chip WLAN integrated circuits – the XWay Wave100 ICs – that provide a high-performance and cost-effective solution for wireless network access points that are compliant with the 802.11n standard for data rates up to 150 Mbps, as well as the 802.11b/g Infineon - XWAY(tm) WAVEstandard.

The XWay Wave100 family lowers the total system cost for home gateway manufacturers and improves manufacturing throughput, according to the company.

The family of ICs integrates the WLAN base-band, Media Access Control (MAC), RF, low-noise amplifier (LNA) and power amplifier (PA) functionalities. Systems based on the XWay Wave100 ICs require a low number of external components and need no external memory, the company said.

“With the new XWay Wave100 family, Infineon enables customers to meet growing consumer demand for high-speed wireless connectivity by offering WLAN 802.11n 1x1, with up to four times more speed than earlier generation WLANs, at the price of legacy 802.11b/g systems,” said Christian Wolff, president of the wireline communications division at Infineon. “By combining our system know-how with expertise in chip design, we focus on product innovations to reduce the total system manufacturing cost for our customers.”

Maxlinear Intros Low-Power Tuners 

MaxLinear Inc. has released the MxL20xRF family of silicon tuners, which were developed for the global digital cable market – more specifically, for set-top boxes, DVRs, cable MxL201RF tunermodems, EMTAs, cable gateways and cable-enabled TVs – and consume less than one-third of the power of competing solutions, according to the company.

MaxLinear said the new tuners consume only 400 mW of power each, meaning a four-tuner, channel-agile DOCSIS 3.0 system can be built with the power budget of just one competing device, which typically consumes more than 1.6 W of power and has limited capture bandwidth.

The low-power properties of the MxL20xRF tuners comply with Energy Star standards in both standby and operating modes. Additionally, the new tuners can be implemented on simple, two-layer PCBs and do not require any provisions for thermal management.
