Cable Installation Testing - Noisecom Intros Merlin Line

Noisecom, a Wireless Telecom Group company, has released its Merlin product line of handheld signal generators for Noisecom Merlincable installation testing.

According to the company, older analog cable installations do not require the bandwidth and resistance to noise that modern high-definition television (HDTV) systems do. And HDTV systems can also have marginal signal paths that are affected by signal ingress, which can lead to exhibited egress.

“Merlin impresses through reliability and true ease of use,” says Wolfgang Damm, marketing director of the Wireless Telecom Group. “It is a small-but-powerful, one-button device that will reduce service calls in the cable-related industry significantly.”

The standard cable modem receiver signal strength must be between -15 dBmV and +15 dBmV for proper HDTV picture quality, according to the company. So to test system components for either egress or ingress susceptibility, Merlin, used with selective frequency receivers, must overcome natural cable system losses; therefore, it has a relatively high output power level of +20 dBmV at 75 Ohms of impedance (up to +40 dBmV possible on request).

2Wire unites television set with Internet

2Wire has introduced its MediaPoint broadband entertainment solution, a customizable platform that unites the TV set with Internet video, music and photos, as well as personal networked media content.

The solution gives service providers the ability to immediately offer subscribers a complete suite of entertainment services at a fraction of the cost of facilities-based solutions.

MediaPoint allows consumers to browse, download and view DVD-quality video and movies; listen to streaming music; view and share photos; and access personal networked media content – all on their TV, and with any broadband connection.

2Wire MediaPoint

“The MediaPoint broadband entertain-ment solution enables attractive service offerings for providers and a full-featured, user-friendly experience for subscribers,” says Jonathan Symonds, vice president of product marketing and management for media at 2Wire. “It bridges the divide between the Internet and the television with one integrated, provider-branded user experience. MediaPoint broadband entertainment platform provides a fully managed solution at a price point that enables significant marketing flexibility for the operator.”

MediaPoint combines a digital media player with the 2Wire Service Management System (SMS) and Media Software.

The MediaPoint digital media player is the hardware component. It includes support for standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD) content, SDTV and HDTV interfaces, wired and wireless network connectivity, internal storage and USB expansion. The digital media player supports connections to TV sets via HDMI, Component, Composite and Optical Audio.

2Wire Media Soft-ware enables a fully converged experience of Internet video and local media on the TV. The software also includes UPnP AV and DLNA technology that discovers media content stored on every networked device in the home and displays it on the TV.

The 2Wire SMS enables service providers to manage all aspects of their broadband entertainment services, including operator billing, account management, and content distribution and licensing systems.

IneoQuest Tech improves sub experience

IneoQuest Technologies Inc. has debuted VeriFrame, a new video content verification technology.

The conversion from analog to digital video distribution creates content verification challenges for video service providers and equipment manufacturers, including validating baseband video and audio quality 24/7, as well as auditing when, where and how content played, according to the company.

Incorporated into IneoQuest’s new video content management software (iCMS) and Cricket FrameGrabber hardware probes, VeriFrame’s distributed video verification technology enables telecom, cable and satellite operators, content providers, broadcasters and equipment manufacturers to capture, monitor, audit and verify baseband content – allowing them to validate the subscriber experience.
