Rovi releases SDK for adding HEVC codecs

The SDK includes the company’s patent-pending Smart Adaptive Bitrate Encoding Technology (SABET), which enables the generation of as many as ten simultaneous output streams from a single source, reducing CPU cycles by utilizing common encoding processes across all levels, Rovi explained. This facility should help lower the costs and reduce the time required for the mass transcoding of large video content libraries to HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding).

Tek testers handle HDMI

Tektronix has introduced a new waveform monitor with HDMI/HDCP inputs, enabling video distributors to directly monitor the quality of the video and audio output of set-top boxes (STB) and Blu-ray players. According to Tek, previously there was no way for broadcasters and video service providers to monitor the video signal quality output from STBs, Blu-ray players and other consumer devices with HDMI outputs.

Imagine doubles the density of ICE

Linksys next-gen Wi-Fi router now available

Linksys has hit the market with a new router that incorporates the latest Wi-Fi flavor, 802.11ac, which can reach gigabit data transfer rates. Cisco said the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC 1750 HD Video Pro, announced earlier this year, was now available through retail and online stores in the U.S. The new router complements the company’s previously announced Universal Media Connector.

Envivio encoder bumps up efficiency

The company claims the latest version of its transcoding software can improve transcoding speed by up to 35 percent. Envivio introduced a new version of its on-demand transcoding software that the company’s own testing indicates an improvement of up to 35 percent in file-to-file transcoding speed, as compared to competing platforms that require hardware acceleration.
