In late June 2009, the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for a next-generation technology that could revolutionalize the TV industry. In a landmark decision, the nation's highest court dismissed legal challenges to the Remote Storage Digital Video Recorder (RS-DVR), enabling broadband providers to put all the time-shifting capabilities of a traditional digital video recorder (DVR) into a network-based environment. As a result, cable and Telco TV operators alike are now preparing to launch their first RS-DVR offerings to digital subscribers.
