RGB, itaas, Verimatrix team on TV Everywhere
RGB Networks, itaas and Verimatrix have joined forces to provide network operators a packaged system that will allow them to begin delivering multi-screen streaming – including live video – relatively quickly.
Deploying a TV Everywhere service can be a challenge; the technology is advanced, and there are just too many moving parts. As is often the case when integration challenges arise, groups of vendors will ally, offering a joint solution to make deployment easier.
RGB, itaas and Verimatrix have responded by bringing together itaas’ interactive client app for viewing content, RGB’s IP video delivery systems and Verimatrix’s security technology.
“Building an adaptive bit rate IP video infrastructure can be a daunting task for even the largest, most technically proficient service provider,” said Jim Elayan, vice president of business development and marketing for itaas.
Itaas is acting as system integrator. This three-company effort is coming under the umbrella of its iLaunch program. Announced in June, iLaunch is the company’s program for coordinating and integrating the deployment of EBIF applications.
For those service providers that choose to take advantage of the itaas/RGB/Verimatrix solution, itaas’ network architects will first assess the SP’s existing video delivery infrastructure and then work with RGB Networks and Verimatrix, as well as content delivery network providers, to design and implement a TV Everywhere solution that leverages the existing infrastructure and keeps costs and complexity to a minimum, itaas said.
The customer can leverage the itaas mobile application to view content or integrate it with an existing mobile solution.
In this integrated offering, RGB Networks provides its carrier-class Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG), a highly scalable transcoding platform delivering superior operational savings and benefits, as well as protocol adaptation with its TransAct Packager, which works in coordination with DRM and encryption from Verimatrix. RGB’s Packager supports the three main adaptive streaming formats – HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS) and Smooth Streaming.
Verimatrix’s VCAS for Internet TV provides a digital TV security solution for over-the-top (OTT) services on networks implementing the HLS protocol, which includes important security extensions to support subscription and transaction-based revenue models. Verimatrix can also provide support for third-party DRM systems, such as Verimatrix MultiRights for PlayReady DRM, which secures adaptive bit rate Smooth Streaming services to Microsoft PlayReady DRM-enabled clients and is supported by a single operator security headend.
“The maturity of multi-screen partner ecosystems makes TV Everywhere more than just an interesting option for digital TV operators. It becomes a bona fide revenue-generation opportunity,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer at Verimatrix.
