Multiplay OKs Arris' new all-digital box
Arris said Multiplay in Brazil is the first pay TV operator to certify its DCX525e and to offer the new all-digital box, introduced three months ago, to its subscribers.
The DCX525e can handle both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 video. It has a 1 GHz tuner, has integrated MediaCipher conditional access, and includes enough memory to support additional applications.
Other features include switched digital video (SDV) support, and Arris’ SmartStream Terminal Data Collector (STDC) support, for remote diagnosis and corrective action.
It supports high-definition video, digital sound, on-demand and interactive services, and features a software-programmable capability to be converted to an IP set-top in the future, all at what the company is calling a “competitive” price.
"Our subscribers want to enjoy a high-quality video experience, on their terms," said Fernando Augusto Pereira, director of engineering, Multiplay. "The DCX525e makes that possible, giving our subscribers a choice of on-demand and interactive services. And in the future, as more IP video content becomes available, the technology will evolve to support these advanced experiences."
