iControl leverages Android app developers for new products
iControl is putting its spurs to faster development cycles for its home automation apps by launching its FastTrack App Partner Program.
The program will leverage the Android app development community in order to come up with new touch-screen applications for iControl’s home automation partners.
iControl has partnered with Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Cox Communications and Rogers Communications on their home automation and security services by enabling the touch screens that are made by SMC Networks and Technicolor .
"The FastTrack Program is a key component in further developing the connected home and opens a new distribution channel for app developers," said Jason Domangue, iControl's vice president of ecosystem development. "FastTrack makes it easy and seamless for app developers to team with leading cable service providers for in-home distribution, and increases comfort and convenience for consumers by providing unique, innovative apps tailored for the smart home."
Inaugural members of the FastTrack Program include:
• Life360 – Location and communication for families
• MapQuest – Maps and traffic
• News Republic – Customizable global news alerts
• TuneIn – Online radio and music streaming
• Weather Channel – Detailed forecasts and future radar
App developers interested in joining the FastTrack Program can sign up for a developer's program kit on the iControl website. Once an app makes the grade, it will live in iControl's marketplace and become accessible to millions of consumers around the globe.
"Our ultimate goal is to create an ecosystem with limitless possibilities for connectivity that takes the smart home to a new level," said Jim Johnson, senior vice president and general manager of iControl's Austin office. "With the help of innovative app partners, consumers now have access to interactive, next-generation tools that make life healthier, happier, easier and more efficient.”
