In the media: Time Warner Cable unveils Ultimate 75 tier in Dallas

Mike Robuck

In order to lure customers over from AT&T, Time Warner Cable has tuned up a tier in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that features 75 Mbps on the downstream.

Users in DSL Reports’ Time Warner Cable forum said the service is called “Ultimate 75” and costs $90 a month. Time Warner Cable was slower out of the gates than most of the other major MSOs with its DOCSIS 3.0 deployments [1], but in the third quarter of last year, it added a record number of 73,000 new subscribers.

Time Warner Cable’s fastest speed to date has been its 50 Mbps tier, although the company has started offering a 100 Mbps service in Kansas City, where it competes against Google Fiber’s 1 Gbps offering.

Time Warner Cable’s upstream speed for its 30 Mbps and 50 Mbps tiers has been 5 Mbps; a spokesman didn’t respond this morning in regard to the upstream speed for the 75 Mbps tier.

During a November third-quarter earnings call, Time Warner Cable President and COO Rob Marcus said the cable operator would increase the speeds on its standard Internet tiers by 50 percent [2], to as much as 15 Mbps on the downstream, which started last month [3].
