The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced this morning that for the third time in four years, a record number of abstracts were submitted for the technical sessions at this year’s SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Orlando.
This year’s record number of 250 submissions easily topped the 231 entries from 2010 and the older record of 210 in 2009.
“Cable continues to seek new ways to maximize the benefits of new technologies and increase the industry’s competitive edge,” said Jim Ludington, executive vice president of network national operations for Time Warner Cable and chairman of the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2012 Program Committee. “The deep pool of abstracts we’ve received for Cable-Tec Expo 2012 will lay the groundwork for an enriching and informative educational program that will help all segments of the industry to reduce cost, increase network performance and achieve new levels of customer satisfaction.”
The topics were divided into six categories this year: business services, capacity management, network and technical operations, Smart Energy Management Initiative (SEMI), engineering and wireless/Wi-Fi.
The SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2012 Program Committee will announce which abstracts will be presented at Expo by June 29.
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo is slated for Oct. 17-19 in Orlando. In conjunction with Cable-Tec Expo, SCTE will host a Digital Home Symposium and selected pre-conference sessions on Oct. 16. Both SCTE Cable-Tec Expo and the Digital Home Symposium will take place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
At the behest of Time Warner Cable and Comcast, the SCTE has started an evaluation process on whether it should move Expo back to its previous spring timeframe by 2015 .
Starting in 2009, cable industry events were broken into spring and fall weeks after the National Cable & Telecommunications Association spearheaded an initiative, through its Cable Organization Review Committee, to consolidate cable industry events. The twice-yearly cable industry events were branded under the “Cable Connection” name.
