Comcast’s Xfinity Home App now available on Android devices
Comcast customers that use its Xfinity Home service can now control their systems remotely via selected Android devices with the company’s Xfinity Home app.
Similar to Comcast’s Xfinity Home iPhone app, the Android version allows Comcast’s home automation customers to arm or disarm their alarm systems, control their home lighting remotely and adjust thermostat settings.
According to a blog post by Comcast’s Bill Horrocks, vice president of product management for Xfinity Home, the app also features “glanceable” status to access the system’s status and view its history. There’s also a video monitoring feature to view streaming video on Android devices or the most recently saved video clips.
“With the Xfinity Home app, an Xfinity Home customer can easily control their home from the palm of their hand,” Horrocks wrote. “It allows simple and convenient remote access to monitor their security, home control and energy management solutions right from their Android-powered device.”
Currently, the app is supported by Android Versions 2.2/Froyo to 2.3.7/Gingerbread and is available for free on Google Play for Android. Horrocks said Comcast plans to make it available on Android tablets soon.
Comcast has said it expects to have Xfinity Home available across all of its footprint by the end of this year, after first launching the service two years ago in Houston .
Last week, Comcast added on-demand streaming capabilities to Android devices via its Xfinity TV Player app .
