Google aggregates content into Google Play Store

Andrew Berg, Wireless Week

Google yesterday launched Google Play, a media hub that aggregates all of its many content storefronts – Google Music, Android Market, Google eBookstore – into one central entertainment hub.

In a post on Google's official blog, Jamie Rosenberg, the company's director of digital content, emphasized Google Play's ability to sync content across multiple devices.

"Google Play is entirely cloud-based, so all your music, movies, books and apps are stored online, always available to you, and you never have to worry about losing them or moving them again," Rosenberg wrote.

With Google Play, users can store up to 20,000 songs for free, download Android apps, browse e-books and rent movies.

Android phone and tablet users will see an upgrade to the Android Market app that will complete the transition for users to the Google Play Store app over the coming days. Videos, books and music apps on a user's device will also be upgraded to Google Play.
