iControl, uControl to merge
iControl Networks and uControl have agreed to merge, in a move that will combine the former's software for broadband home management and the latter's software for home security, monitoring, and automation.
iControl ,which sells largely to broadband service providers, including cable and phone companies, has raised about $44 million. uControl has raised about $24 million. iControl has security systems provider ADT as a customer, and uControl counts Comporium, Massillon and NewWave Communications among its customers.
ADT is not only one of uControl's biggest customers, it also happens to be both a customer and an investor in iControl as well.
Other investors in iControl include Comcast Interactive Capital, Cisco, Intel Capital, Charles River Ventures, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield.
iControl CEO Paul Dawes and uControl CEO Jim Johnson will serve as co-CEOs of the merged entity, which will retain the name iControl Networks.
"This is a rare opportunity where everyone benefits," said Johnson. "The scale achieved through this market consolidation is better for customers, partners, employees, and investors. Our top priorities are the success of our customers' deployments and accelerating the growth of our OpenSMA ecosystem ."
uControl founded OpenSMA as an open organization to promote the use of managed residential security, monitoring and automation systems.
