In the media: Videotron will launch wireless service later this week
Videotron's wireless service is set to go live this Thursday when Quebecor CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau and Videotron CEO Robert Depatie will hold a news conference in Montreal and Quebec City to announce the new mobile offering, according to The Canadian Press.
Videotron said earlier this year that it would have the service up and running sometime this summer.
Videotron launched its own TV Everywhere service in June and has made mention of tying its voice, video and data services onto one platform for ease of use by its subscribers.
With the launch, Videotron will be competing against more established wireless carriers, such as Rogers and Bell, in its Quebec footprint, as well as Public Mobile.
Thanks to wireless auctions and prodding from the government, the wireless market is becoming more competitive in Canada. Wind Mobile and Mobilicity have launched wireless services, while Shaw Communications plans on launching its offering late next year.
