Motorola intros DVR for all-digital migration
Motorola’s Mobile Devices and Home business has added to its STB portfolio the Motorola DCX3501-M all-digital HD dual-tuner MR-DVR.
The new set-top offers an integrated MoCA home networking interface, which allows it to serve as a multimedia hub for sharing content with other compatible devices in the home – creating an IP home network.
Motorola’s DCX3501-M can support full 1080p60 HD output, and it also offers advanced performance to support cable operators' applications. It is compatible with Motorola's DCT legacy software API set and is tru2way-capable for compatibility with both new and already deployed applications.
The DVR will help ops continue their migration to an all-digital network, Motorola said, and includes an internal 500 GB hard drive, allowing for easy upgrade and replacement. DVR expansion is also supported via the external hard disk drives (eSATA), giving cable ops the opportunity to allow consumers to select their external hard drive of choice (enabling 1 TB or more of storage).
Motorola said the DVR is 33 percent lighter than previous models and boasts a post-consumer recycled plastic design. It also offers a full-featured front panel display and touch-sensitive buttons, as well as support for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC HD video, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Volume. In addition, the DCX3501-M supports the new software enhancements previously announced by Motorola for 3-D TV video and graphics processing in the set-top prior to being delivered to the 3-D TV-capable TV.
Motorola is showcasing the new STB at The Cable Show this week in Los Angeles.
