D3, Xfinity drop in South Florida
Today, Comcast’s Xfinity branding effort took flight in South Florida, which brings the cable operator’s count to 13 markets with the new name.
A spokesman for Comcast said this morning that the Miami market now has DOCSIS 3.0 tiers available in the majority of that area. Comcast’s Project Cavalry analog-to-digital initiative has also largely been completed in the Miami footprint, which freed up additional bandwidth for the DOCSIS 3.0 service and additional HD offerings.
Earlier this year, Comcast re-branded [1] its voice, video, data and other services with the Xfinity tagline. In December, Comcast recast its On Demand Online “TV Everywhere” service as Fancast Xfinity.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Comcast’s subscribers in the South Florida area will have access to more than 100 HD channels with the launch of Xfinity, including 50 to 70 multicultural channels.
Comcast, which competes with Verizon in areas of South Florida, has more than 900,000 subscribers in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, with another 600,000 in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
