Arris expands delivery platform applications
Arris has expanded the abilities of its ConvergeMedia XMS Distribution Platform with the addition of storage based on flash memory and a VOD application specifically for use in hospitality and for small service providers, including those using VOD in a Box.
The XMS 2K Flash is a scalable content delivery device using Flash solid state storage, which in the last two years or so has emerged as a high-performance, low-power and more reliable alternative to disk-based storage.
The XMS 2K is ideally suited for large content libraries, providing reliable, low-cost, disk-based content ingest, storage and delivery for the central and regional portions of service provider content delivery networks (CDNs).
The XMS 2K Flash can be positioned at the edge of these same CDNs, combining with XMS 2K to provide a complete CDN infrastructure, operated coherently by way of Arris’ ConvergeMedia Management Platform.
The new XMS Mini application, which Arris said is suited for VOD environments with fewer than 10,000 subscribers, also supports digital ad insertion.
All XMS products run Arris Streaming Media Engine (SME) software, featuring support for:
- Video-on-demand
- Scheduled program delivery
- Ad insertion
- Network DVR (nPVR, time-shifted TV, RS-DVR)
- Dynamic VOD advertising
- IPTV
- Multi-screen video applications
Arris vice president of on-demand product strategy Basil Badawiyeh said: “The XMS platform supports an evolving and dynamic set of solutions that address customer needs as they migrate their networks to CDN and terrestrial-based delivery in their largest markets, provide advanced services in their smaller markets and embark upon a multi-screen media experience.”
