Verizon serves up Comcast Network in Philly, other areas
Verizon announced that Comcast Network is now available to its FiOS subscribers in Comcast’s hometown of Philadelphia.
In addition to the Philly region, Verizon said Comcast Network is also available to its customers in the Harrisburg area and in parts of southern New Jersey and Delaware.
Comcast Network [1] is a regional channel that offers local public affairs and community interest programming, as well as some Phillies, Flyers and 76ers games. Verizon has been offering Comcast SportsNet in SD and HD to its subscribers in the Philadelphia region.
Verizon rolled out its video service [2] in Philadelphia in November. Also last year, Comcast Spotlight, the advertising division of Comcast, said it would sell ads for Verizon’s video service [3] in 10 markets where the two service providers compete.
While content owners such as Comcast aren’t obligated to provide access to programmers, Verizon and others have been asking the Federal Communications Commission to make a ruling on program access rules [4], especially with the pending Comcast/NBCU merger waiting in the wings.
Terms of the agreement between Verizon and Comcast Network weren’t available.
