BigBand Networks overhauls executive management team
BigBand Networks announced that David Heard has resigned as the company’s chief operating officer and that Sean Rooney has resigned as senior vice president of worldwide sales.
As part of its executive management shakeup, BigBand also said that Mike Pohl has been appointed as a non-executive chairman of the board of directors. With Pohl’s appointment as chairman, BigBand has separated the roles of chief executive officer and chairman, which were previously held by Amir Bassan-Eskenazi.
While stepping down as BigBand’s chairman of the board, Bassan-Eskenazi will continue to serve as BigBand's CEO and will be responsible for executive management of the company. Bassan-Eskenazi will continue to serve as a member of the board of directors.
Heard joined BigBand in 2007, while Rooney came on board in 2009. Heard will remain as a consultant through June of this year, while Rooney will finish up April 1.
Pohl has more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He worked for nCube and C-Cor before they were acquired by Arris and is currently CEO of Jinni Media .
Pohl was appointed to BigBand’s board in April of last year.
"The role of chairman of the board is important and demanding, especially in light of greater compliance and reporting requirements. Having an independent chairman elevates our governance structure to 'best practices,' which is critical in today's business environment," said Bassan-Eskenazi. "Mike brings an immense wealth of experience in guiding companies through their critical growth cycles, and we are delighted that he has accepted this important role."
BigBand also announced that Ray Fitzgerald was promoted to vice president of worldwide cable sales, while Wayne Gaudette will continue to service as vice president of telco sales. These positions will report directly to Bassan-Eskenazi.
In an earnings call last month, BigBand reported that its total revenues for last year were $139.5 million, compared with $185.3 million in 2008.
In December, Doug Jones, BigBand’s chief architect for cable, left the company to become Comcast’s vice president of access technologies.
