Drake picks SOC from ViXS for encoders

R.L. Drake has tabbed ViXS’ system-on-a-chip (SOC) for its new digital encoder platform.

Drake will use ViXS’ XCode 3290 SOC for its DrakeDigital EH24 Encoder solution. The new real-time encoding platform uses ViXS XCode technology for the broadcast, professional and cable markets to deliver high-quality MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 (H.264) video encoding accompanied with Dolby Digital AC-3 audio encoding and closed captioning.

"Thanks to the ViXS XCode technology, our DrakeDigital Encoding System dramatically reduces the cost of converting analog networks to digital, improving bandwidth efficiency by over 90 percent,” said Drake President and CEO Jeff Huppertz. "The ViXS XCode 3290 exceeded our dual-stream encoding needs while delivering exceptional output video quality."
