VOD specialist Imake appears shuttered

Brian Santo

Content delivery specialist Imake Software & Services appears to have ceased operations.

The privately held company has made no public statement, but phone calls to the company’s headquarters were not returned, and its Web site – http://www.imake.com [1] – no longer has any company information.

Further, Imake is apparently set to relinquish its URL; a note on the site says the domain name is “coming soon to register.com.”

The company was purchased in 2000 by 24/7 Real Media. Less than two years later, 24/7 sold Imake back to a group led by Imake President Mark Schaszberger. However, 24/7 retained an ownership stake (19.9 percent at the time of the sale).

Imake’s most recent customer win that was announced was Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, in January (story here [2]). Imake announced that the Comcast unit had elected to use its ingest and distribution products for local video-on-demand content.

In February, Imake’s latest version of the OpenVision Asset Management System (AMS) was fully integrated with NDS’ encryption and middleware products (story here [3]); and in early April, Imake’s OpenVision Ad Exchange gained support for linear broadcast TV ad insertion (story here [4]).
