Insight sees subs, revenue increase in Q1
Insight Communications continued the trend of MSOs weathering the recession well, reporting increases in subscriber numbers and revenue in its first quarter.
The company reported a net gain of 91,200 revenue-generating units (RGUs) during the quarter, for a total of 1.97 million. The net addition of RGUs for the year was 262,600.
The 91,200 RGU number broke down into:
- A basic customer net gain of 16,000 – for a total of 723,700 – up 5 percent from a year ago.
- Broadband up 19,900 to 478,500.
- Digital subs up 30,700 to 470,200.
- Phone customers up by 24,500 to 300,100.
Insight said it had revenue of $236.7 million, a 15 percent increase over Q1 2008. ARPU was up nearly $10 a subscriber since last year; at the end of the first quarter it was $110.79.
Capital expenditures were $49.5 million.
Insight Communications ranks as the ninth-largest cable operator in the U.S., with approximately 777,000 customer relationships in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. Insight offers bundled video, high-speed Internet and voice services to its customers.
