• Verizon expands FiOS services in Va.

Verizon has expanded the availability of its FiOS TV and FiOS Internet services in Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, Va. Verizon’s FiOS TV is now available to approximately 3,400 more homes and businesses in the area.
In addition to Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, FiOS TV is currently available in Hampton, Newport News and Poquoson, Va., as well as in much of the northern Virginia and Richmond areas.
And new residential customers who subscribe to FiOS TV by Oct. 31 will receive the choice of a year's free use of either a high-definition (HD) digital video recorder (DVR) or an HD Home Media DVR. Verizon is also offering new FiOS TV customers, or existing customers who upgrade to a bundled package, one free month of HBO and Cinemax.
• Verizon: Alltel deal to close this year

Verizon Wireless still believes its $26.1 billion acquisition of smaller rival Alltel can close by the end of this year, a carrier representative said on Friday.
No new information was available other than Verizon’s possible requirement to leave certain markets as a government condition for approving the merger.
Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam said in August that integration plans were underway, but he did not specify how many jobs would be eliminated.
• Procera intros PL10002, a 3RU chassis

Procera Networks has enhanced its PacketLogic PL10000 family of products with the addition of the PacketLogic PL10002, a compact, three rack unit (3RU) chassis with up to four Gigabit Ethernet (GE) channels at full wire speed and 500,000 subscribers on a single AdvancedTCA chassis.
According to the company, the PL10002 gives service providers the business intelligence, service creation, network visibility and control required to rollout new revenue-generating services and optimize network performance.
The PL10002 is built for Tier-1 broadband networks – both wired and wireless – offering carrier-grade performance with full redundancy on components such as cooling and power supply. The chassis is available now.
