Entone to bow multi-stream IP video gateway at IBC
Entone will take the wraps off of a new multi-stream IP video gateway at next week’s IBC show in Amsterdam.
Based on Entone’s Hydra IP Video Gateway platform, the Janus IP Video Gateway supports simultaneous decoding of one high-definition (HD) stream and a second independent standard-definition (SD) stream. Both streams are distributed over existing in-home coax cabling without requiring individual set-top boxes at remote viewing locations.
Janus can connect to fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and xDSL networks using Ethernet, powerline, coaxial or wireless (802.11n) technologies. Janus integrates a dual DVB-T tuner for digital terrestrial broadcasting reception. It also provides multiple storage capacity options for whole-home digital video recorder (DVR) capabilities. Janus supports media sharing within a home network for easy access to images, music and videos from anywhere in the home.
“To be competitive in Europe’s demanding IPTV market, operators need to reduce their installation costs while enabling a differentiated customer experience,” said Ian Jefferson, vice president of business development at Entone. “By leveraging existing in-home wiring infrastructure, Janus can enable service providers to reduce their video distribution network deployment costs, as well as offer an enhanced user experience.”
