Sprint Nextel and NetLogic Microsystems have joined The Road to 100G Alliance.
Sprint Nextel, which is building a WiMAX network in the U.S., is the first service provider to join the group.
The group is a global community of vendors that aim to accelerate the adoption and ongoing development of networking platforms that can achieve transmission rates in excess of 100 Gbps.
The Alliance is focused solely on identifying and addressing the complex implementation and integration issues that might compromise the adoption and proliferation of next-generation telecommunications and network solutions.
“Sprint’s perspective will help guide the Alliance in terms of new services and applications for advanced network and telecom equipment, and will certainly bring to light many important issues,” said Bill Weisinger, the Road to 100G Alliance chairman and president.
The Road to 100G Alliance will be hosting a panel session at the NXTcomm 2008 conference, being held June 16-19 in Las Vegas.
