SES Americom certifies Harmonic’s compression encoders

Harmonic [1] announced today that SES Americom [2] has certified the use of Harmonic’s DiviCom Electra 7000 high-definition (HD) MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoders, as well as Harmonic’s Ion AVC standard-definition (SD) encoders, for compression of local channels in SES Americom’s IP-Prime distribution platform.

IP-Prime is a broadcast and video-on-demand (VOD) television service designed for telco and broadband service providers of every size. Architected by SES Americom, IP-Prime uses IPTV technologies from a variety of technical partners. The IP-Prime Broadcast Center in Vernon Valley, N.J., transports 299 video channels – including 36 HD channels – to the headend or central office that ultimately sends them to subscribers' homes.

Harmonic also today introduced its NMX StreamLiner Cluster Workstation, an extension of the company’s NMX Digital Services Manager that provides a range of tools for managing assets and the resource usage of clusters of Harmonic Streamliner video servers.

"The result is a technically sophisticated management and control system that greatly simplifies on-demand video delivery and gives our customers a much more efficient, user-friendly and advanced tool for managing VOD and other on-demand content.”

Harmonic is demonstrating its StreamLiner Cluster Workstation at the NAB Show [3] in Las Vegas, which commenced today.
